The origins of the Romagna style of printing are not clear, a great deal comes from the silk press that the english imported from India that, when revenled in Europa had some success, above all in Italy.
Successively in the first decades of the XIXth century it was developed in the Romagna lowlands, the printing on cloth, generally by hand was used to produce objects that at first were more decorative and floreal, then rural ( grapes, straw …) that rapresent the country women who developed this trade and hes strong connection sto it.
The begin with a “ rust “ colour was used, extra red from iron oxide
( which is still used today ). The printing moulds were made from pear tree wood is easy to carve, with little knots and veins and resistant to use.
